Children with sensory processing difficulties might find it extremely difficult in the classroom environment and may become overwhelmed. Processing sensory information can be challenging for children in the classroom, their senses may be over or under sensitive or even a mixture of both. The child’s sensory difference can affect how they feel and act in the classroom. Some children experience sensory overloads, this is when the brain is getting input from the different senses at the same time and the brain gets confused and finds it difficult to sort through and process as too much is going on at the same child this can be extremely challenging.
It is Important to remember not every child learns or expresses themselves the same and the key to moving forward is how do we adapt the classroom to suit the child? No child should be molded to fit into the typical school routine and adaptions should be made to support the child in making their learning successful. Adaptions should be tailored to the child’s individual needs and from a personally point of view I think it’s really importance to normalize these adoptions, so the children do not feel different to their peers.
We will be exploring how to support children in education with additional needs through a sensory lens with regular blogs, posts and adaptions to support children.
